CONTROL ROOM

The Canyon Protection Service (CPS) control room is securely located in Sandton in a well-protected location. With 24/7/365 operations it is easy for our surveillance staff to get to work after hours and on weekends, on public holidays or even during periods of unrest. The control room makes use of a variety of communication solutions to communicate with the client, the armed reaction company, or the guards on the ground. These include VOIP lines, landline telecommunication infrastructure, mobile networks, two-way communication, and it is also covered with wireless broadband coverage. Redundancy was also a critical factor considered during the planning process for the construction of Canyon Protection Services (CPS) control room. Despite South Africa’s challenges in terms of having in place critical infrastructure such as being able to provide uninterrupted electrical supply and telecommunication flow, we have put in place measures to deal with any eventuality in order to ensure clients a 99.99% uptime.

CONTROL ROOM REDUNDANCY

  • Uninterrupted mains incoming power

  • Telephone communication infrastructure

  • Copper-based digital data connectivity

  • Wireless-based digital data connectivity

  • Connectivity server, firewall or VPN switching

  • Video monitoring server and EMS software (event management system)

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • User station with associated software, to ensure uptime.

Operator Training Emphasis

Canyon Protection Services (CPS) places a high value on the training of our surveillance operators. This is particularly important as there is a chronic deficit of well-trained surveillance operators in the security industry.

When we considered employing operators, some of the most important factors considered were computer literacy, observation skills and communication skills. Our recruitment process provides for this and further training on specific software and procedures is required to be an operator.

Previously, the industry control rooms relied solely on well-organised control room shift supervisors and control room managers to have a thorough in-depth knowledge of clients’ site instructions, SOP’s and corporate rules. However, through our state-of-art integrated control room that utilises artificial intelligence (AI) this is something that is no longer required. AI enforces these rules seamlessly without any human interaction. Nonetheless, at Canyon Protection Services (CPS) our managers and supervisors are highly skilled IT operators, who can assist with any technical issues that may arise.

As training on how to operate a state-of-the art control room is not a fixed syllabus due to ever-changing security requirement, it is impossible to train an operator to a point that s/he knows everything. Therefore, training at Canyon Protection Services (CPS) is never ending and continuously on going.

A major factor in the success of our operation and effectiveness is the range of high-quality security technology solutions that we can install at client’s sites.

These solutions include:

  • Transmission and or recording units

  • Current software and hardware

  • Communications systems

AI Key Features

Our control room utilises a range of leading-edge technologies and next level artificial intelligence:

Our system’s artificial intelligence (AI) are compatible with any camera. In particular, if cameras are already installed, then no additional infrastructure is required apart from our infrastructure provided.

The better the quality of the footage, the better the system will function. Hence there is a need that you may have to swap cameras in your current solution with cameras that will be better suited for AI functionality.

The scenario-based rule engine allows the system to contend with the most challenging environments. To provide:
• Highest accurate pinpointing of target behaviour
• Extremely low false alarm rates
• Fast configuration and deployment
• Reliable detection in adverse conditions

The AI enhance our operational activities of law enforcement, people and asset protection predominantly in the three main areas listed below.
1) Preventive Threat Detection
2) Vehicle and Equipment Identification and Tracking
3) Accurate Suspect Identification System

Analytic Solutions

Smart cities are increasingly seen as the model for the future cities. They use different types of electronic Internet of things (IoT) sensors to collect data and then use insights gained from that data to manage assets, resources and services efficiently.

Therefore, AI video analytics solutions will play a major role for years to come in aiding safety and security of Smart cities. Our solution provides various security solutions, that could easily be adapted for use in industries ranging from shopping centres to mines requiring process and health and safety solutions.

Solutions provided include:

  • People & Object Detection

  • Face Search & Recognition

  • Intrusion Detection

  • License Plate Recognition

  • People and Vehicle Tracking

  • Abnormality Detection.

All functions have built-in real-time alert capability and can analyse live video streams and recorded files.

All AI are hardware-agnostic, which means they can be easily integrated with all ONVIF IP cameras and existing video management software (VMS). The system is optimised to easily scale from small organisations to major projects for perimeter protection, access control, traffic management, fire detection, human behaviour, shopping analytics and weapon detection.

Thermal Temperature Screening Cameras: This plugin enables the display of skin-surface temperatures in a live feed and during playback. The system can receive elevated temperature alarms which can alert managers about a potential ill staff member and enable swift action to be taken to treat and/or remove the person from the workplace.

Our solutions offer an ideal platform for the integration of traditional surveillance security to help mitigate against the risk of losses occurring by integrating surveillance technology with access control, breathalysers, weighbridges and video management software (VMS) to monitor and respond to alarms triggered in the control room.

Video analytics plays a key role in notifying control room of any abnormal or suspicious activity, so that immediate and predetermined actions can be taken. This in conjunction with our advanced video search features provide a world leading suite of tools that significantly speeds up the process of viewing pre-recorded footage by eliminating the need to review irrelevant footage.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition:

  • Recognition of license plates during day or night, in good or poor visibility conditions, and any weather with the highest level of accuracy and swift processing speed.

  • The system is connected to the eNatis system, allowing for identification of the vehicle ownership.

  • The AI have the capability to remember that a certain number plate belongs to a certain make and model of car, of a specific colour.

  • If the number plate is used on another vehicle, if a different driver is using the vehicle, if it is moving during times that it should not be moving. This is achieved by its deep learning-based feature.

Monitoring Parking Spaces:

Our AI system can analyse images from any camera to detect objects and provide real-time answers to:

  • Where are available parking spots in real-time?

  • Who leaves their vehicles for longer than scheduled period of times?

  • Analysis of which parking areas are more used than others to optimise pricing structures?

  • Analysis of mobility flows to prevent vehicle flow stoppages?

Automatic Picture Distortion Alerts:

Our system finds these problems and notifies operators of degradation of image quality on the camera to ensure that they can take swift action to repair or replace the camera unit.

People Counting:

  • Is a key feature required by shopping centres and large retail outlets.

  • Canyon Protection Services (CPS) AI control room solution uses video counting technology to monitor the number of people entering and exiting sites.

  • Provides valuable information for analysing trends and people habits to assist primarily with security measures but are also used for enhancing sales and marketing strategies.

Video Analytics:

Canyon Protection Services (CPS) provides a range of video analytics to improve efficiencies including:

• Smart Video Motion Detection

• Queue Length Analysis

• Traffic Direction

• Abandoned Object Analysis

• Post Object Search
