EVENT GUARDING

Providing security for an event involves a variety of risks. These include fire, stampedes, theft, stage collapse, electrocution, fights, injury from traffic incidents, and even terrorist attacks, among others.

Therefore, the following factors need to be considered when conducting a security risk assessment:

-  The type of the event (a classical concert is different from a heavy metal gig)

-  The size of the crowd (from 20 people private function to a 20 000 + sports event)

-  The characteristics of the venue (outdoor or indoor)

-  Method of entrance (how many doors and floors)

Keeping visitors safe and secure is our top priority.

When planning for an event Canyon Protection Services (CPS) takes into account the type of audience and adjusts security requirement accordingly. However, despite all the necessary preparations, a threat can arise from anywhere in the crowd. However, we have the experience to deal with any unexpected threats that may occur at any time.

We also have a tactical response team on hand, patrolling the area to ensure the safety of assets and people. In the event of an emergency our tactical response team are also first aiders and will assist until the emergency services arrive. Our Shift Supervisors are well trained and do patrol and site visits to ensure that none of our guards are asleep.

All our guards have gone through a stringent screening process as well as training and have to undergo a polygraph test yearly to keep up honesty and integrity levels.

Guards are also trained to use force when required under extenuating circumstances.

WHAT KIND OF EVENTS REQUIRE SECURITY?

  • If the event is high-profile or held in a public venue, security may need to be tighter, especially if the area includes many entrances.

  • On the other hand, if the event is low profile and held on private property, security can be reduced and low key.

  • Amusement parks and concerts are considered events where security is paramount.

  • We create an operations plan and a timeline for every event. This effective security plan keeps track of all the important parameters and is the best way to prepare for an event. It covers all aspects of the event, from when the doors open to getting everyone out without any problem.

  • The whole security team gets briefed well in advance about the entire procedure and the potential threats and how to react to them.

  • The Canyon Protection Services (CPS) team is trained not to allow intoxicated and troublesome people entry into the event. Managing these people in a safe manner is another critical strategy we implement.

  • Canyon Protection Services (CPS) experienced security guards know how to handle security challenges discreetly without jeopardising the crowd's safety.

  • VIP Protection: Canyon Protection Services (CPS) is prepared to address any issues when a celebrity or high-profile person requires protection at an event. We provide the VIP with protection regardless of the VIP is protected by our VIP Protection team or not.  We will ensure that the VIP is escorted safely out of the venue.

  • Our control room operators can man and monitor the queue via a CCTV system, and ensure good communication between staff and visitors.

  • Every event we position guards in critical areas, such as the entry gates. Accessing the site should be easy and efficient to ensure authorised guests are able pass through without undue delay.

  • Gate crashers: Unauthorised/uninvited individuals will be prevented from accessing venues. Canyon Protection Services (CPS) will deploy security guards in critical entry points and ensure that the venue is fenced in. We ensure that only attendees with necessary access passes/tickets will enter.

  • It is important to control access into any event. This will keep out gate crashers and unruly people. It will also reduce the health and safety risks associated with people being injured by vehicles.

  • High profile events may attract protesters, which requires specialised security personnel to maintain order without causing negative exposure. We utilise de-escalation security methods, such as chatting with a group of protesters in order resolve an issue, which can work more efficiently than trying to force them out of a venue.

  • Canyon Protection Services (CPS) riot team has received in depth training on how to handle different types of demonstrators.

  • With our team of highly trained riot teams equipped with all the hi-tech gear, Canyon Protection Services (CPS), is always on standby to rapidly deploy for all events regardless of how big or small they may be!
